Lieutenant Manny Quinlan

Henry Darrow

Lieutenant with the San Diego Police Department, Quinlan was Harry's close friend and contact when he needed information. He was married with children, had a brother named Jesus and a niece named Marilyn. He was shot and killed trying to save his niece from a drug dealer.

"[Elegy for a Cop] is my favorite episode, because of the irony of my character being killed on camera. Through the years, a number of policemen who've seen that show have told me that's how they remembered being shot themselves, or seeing their friends shot. They'd think, 'Wow,' after I looked down to see where I'd been shot in the stomach, because they're thinking, 'Ah, man, I just bought it... it's over for me. And then, of course, at the end of that show, there's that wonderful scene where David goes into a bar, picks that bottle of tequila, and says, 'In case any of your friends come in, let 'em have a drink on Manny Quinlan...'" - Henry Darrow, quoted from MysteryNet.com

Lieutenant Trench

Anthony Zerbe

Lieutenant with the Los Angeles Police Department. When a client brought Harry to LA, he decided to stay and Trench became his new police contact. He was married and had a son and a daughter. Initially their working relationship was somewhat strained - Trench liked to work with people who reported back to him and he didn't have that kind of control over Harry. He also worked in a more logical organised manner, distrusting Harry's 'hunches', however they eventually gained each other's respect.

"Trench had his way of doing things, and he was very successful at it, then suddenly he looks over his shoulder, and he sees this guy Orwell is gaining on him, and that's the fun of it. Trench really loves Harry, but he knows Harry's way is not his way. And he knows that Harry needs a Trench, and that Trench definitely needs a Harry. It's a kind of symbiotic relationship. Harry bemuses Trench, and even exasperates him, but ultimately Trench loves him." - Anthony Zerbe, quoted from MysteryNet.com

Sergeant Frank Cole

Tom Atkins

Frank was very friendly with Harry, treating him like the fellow cop that, at one time, he was. Unlike Lieutenant Quinlan he had no interest in bargaining with information; if Harry asked, Frank would talk to him about their latest case, often only remembering he shouldn't when Quinlan rolled up and reminded him.

Frank often failed to spot when he was being joked with and in Accounts Balanced when he finally realises Quinlan has been playing with him in a discussion about suicide statistics, he commented that he wished Quinlan and Harry wouldn't tease him.

Sergeant Don Roberts

Paul Tulley

Roberts was a little friendlier towards Harry than Trench (at first) but, apart from a couple incidences, he didn't relax enough to call him 'Harry' until the final episode (causing Harry to stop in his tracks in surprise). Roberts probably kept Harry at arms length to avoid getting called onto the carpet by his boss, which is exactly what happened in Shades, when, behind Trench's back, Roberts recommended Harry to a woman involved in a murder case.

Sue Ingham

Farrah Fawcett

Sue was a flight stewardess who shared a house near Harry's with several other stewardesses. She was Harry's girlfriend through much of season two. In APB Harry Orwell it was Sue who helped him when he was on the run by bringing him money and clothes. In Lester Two, Harry travelled to Paris to rescue Sue from diamond smugglers who believed she was in possession of their stones.

Lester Hodges

Les Lannom

Lester came into Harry's life as a murder suspect. Lester was a criminology student with a laboratory full of equipment and a lot of good intentions. His problem was that he lacked experience and therefore got into trouble when his actions did not bring about the desired results due to his inability to factor in human nature. Lester was in awe of Harry's ability to read people and solve problems without the benefit of a lab. He initially wanted to become Harry's partner, later teaming up with renowned criminalist Dr. Fong.

Spencer Johnson

Bill Henderson

Spencer was Harry's friend and mechanic after his move to Santa Monica. Spencer owned a garage and his family was his father who resided at the Farber Nursing Home. After Spencer's father died there he hired Harry to investigate, noting that he'd pay off the fee 'in no time' by working on Harry's car. Harry discovered Spencer's father had died unlawfully after failing to receive proper medication and nutrition. The organisation in charge of the home was subsequently charged with criminal negligence and the theft of a great deal of prescription drugs.

Spencer was later killed by a car bomb that was intended for Harry
